1. The document compares the major options for the future service data plane.
2. In addition, the advantages of using general purpose processors in the service data plane are outlined.
3. Finally, it is explained why classical Openflow is a misfit for controlling a general purpose processor based service data plane and thus, we propose to use higher level abstractions.
4. For the use case “Virtual Residential Gateway”, a prototype implementation of a service data plane on top of the Linux kernel is presented.
